How can Wyvern help you with your DSA Order?

Wyvern have been supplying DSA Students for over 20 years, and throughout this time we have built an extensive knowledge base of Assistive Technology, and supported 1000s of students through their studies.

As an accredited member of the Disabled Students Allowance Quality Assurance Group (DSA-QAG) we supply a high level of service and support to all of our students.

With a specialised team of Delivery Staff, Trainers and a dedicated Technical Support Team, we can offer everything a student needs to maximise the benefit of their Equipment.

What is the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)?

The Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) are grants that help to pay for extra equipment and support that you may need as a direct result of your disability, on-going health condition, sensory impairment, mental-health condition or specific learning difficulty, in order to assist you with your University Studies.

The DSA Process

To show that you qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowance you will need to provide evidence that you have a disability, mental-health condition, medical condition, or a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, which affects your ability to study.

You should apply for the Disabled Students Allowance as soon as possible. You do not have to wait until you have a confirmed place at University or College, although you can apply at any stage of your course.

You will need to wait for an approval letter from your DSA Funding Provider before you arrange a DSA Needs Assessment. They will look at your application and let you know whether you qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowances.

If you qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowance you will need to have a DSA Needs Assessment to decide on the support you will need on your course.

Your Needs Assessor will write a report which identifies the types of Assistive Technology and Specialist Support you may need, how much it will cost, where to get it from and also any Assistive Technology Training you may require to make the best use of the Assistive Technology provided.

Your DSA Funding Provider will send you a letter to tell you what Assistive Technology and other Specialist Support they will pay for from the Disabled Students’ Allowance. You may need to send a copy of this letter to the relevant approved suppliers listed in the letter.

Order your DSA equipment from an approved DSA-QAG Supplier of Assistive Technology and Specialist Support. You will find the name of your approved Supplier on the letter you received from your funding body for the Disabled Students’ Allowance.

You’re equipment will be delivered, Familiarisation with your Assistive Technology will take place on the same day as delivery. This will be a basic overview of your equipment.

If recommended for training, and if the Assistive Technology Trainer is the same as the Assistive Technology Provider then an appointment slot(s) will be arranged for within 10 working days of you receiving your Assistive Technology.

As part of the DSA Process, your equipment supplier will offer on-going support for your equipment, be it computer repairs, or software troubleshooting.

How Wyvern's helped other DSA Students

At Wyvern we are a DSA-QAG accredited Supplier, we offer a full range of equipment, support and training to allow you to be able to successfully work through university without any problems. We have all manner of assistive hardware and software to help in all aspects.

We will provide that equipment quickly and easily for you. We work around you to offer a set delivery time so it doesn’t effect your university work and you don’t end up missing lectures waiting around for us.

When we visit on-site our delivery drivers will setup and test the equipment, show you it working, and ensure you’re happy before leaving, we call this familiarisation. After their visit you’ll be able to provide feedback anonymously. We have found that over 98% of this feedback is positive, with most students rating the service at least 4/5.

If required after your equipment is installed, one of our team of trainers will  train you on the equipment provided. This training is tailored to your requirements, there is no set script. The trainers will be able to show you how your assistive software will be able to help you day to day at university.

We have found this to be very beneficial for students, again feedback is able to be provided and we have found almost 100% of all students found the training to be beneficial to their course at university.

Looking to Upgrade your order?

When placing your DSA Order, you have the option to contribute additional funds to upgrade the equipment you are receiving.

Before we can discuss any upgrade options, we will need to see your DSA funding letter.

This will allow us to to know much funding has been made available for yourself, what equipment or software is already on your order, and what costs any upgrades would therefore be.

If you’d like to discuss your Upgrade options, please just get in contact with our Upgrades Team.

Please note however we cannot discuss pricing until you have sent in the relevant paperwork for your DSA Order.

Ready to book your delivery?

Once your order is finalised, and you're ready to proceed you can book in a delivery date.

To arrange a Delivery Date, please call – 01432 845 138 or send an email to – dsadelivery@wbs.uk.com between 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday.

The delivery dates you will be offered will be within 10 working days from the date of order acknowledgement, this is subject to your availability. (This is assuming no delays from the student for considering potential Upgrades, or students who delay in completing essential paperwork or delay the £200 contribution payment where payable).

The delivery times that we offer are based on a 2 hour time slot – for which you are required to be present for the duration as your delivery can arrive at any point during this 2 hour window.

Once you have booked an appointment for your delivery, we will then send you a Delivery Confirmation, via email, outlining the details of your delivery, with a request to check that all of the details are correct and as agreed at the time of booking.

Every item of equipment that we supply is carefully checked and fully configured prior to it being delivered. This includes the installation of any software, along with a full system check of the machine we are supplying you with.

The delivery preference that has been chosen for you will depend on your personal circumstances and will be whatever your Assessor considers to be best suited to your individual needs, and will be either of the following:

If an onsite set up and familiarisation appointment has been requested by your assessor the engineer will take all the items being delivered out of their boxes on arrival. The engineer will then set up these items and give you a brief familiarisation on what we are supplying you with. This can take up to 1.5 hours depending on the equipment/software on your order and how many questions you have during your set up.

The delivery dates you will be offered will be within 10 working days from the date upon which you contact us, having received your order confirmation email (subject to availability / preference).

When you contact us, the delivery options available will be any time between 9:00am-6:00pm Monday to Friday. During this time frame we offer a 2 hour window of when the engineer can arrive, so please take into consideration that you also need to allow enough time for the set up and familiarisation appointment in addition.

For example, if your delivery is booked between 10.00am and 12.00pm and the engineer arrives nearer the end of this 2 hour window, you still need to allow enough time for the onsite set up.

It is important that you allow enough time to cover the 2 hour delivery window and also for the appointment itself, and take both into consideration when booking a time for your delivery.

Once you have booked an appointment for your delivery, we will then send you a Delivery Confirmation, via email, or by post, outlining the details of your delivery, with a request to check that all of the information is correct and as agreed at the time of booking.

Please note that if you miss your delivery for any reason, you may be liable to pay the cost of a re-delivery fee.

If the Engineer is delayed for any reason, we will notify you of the delay as soon as possible.

During your delivery the engineer will complete a checklist which you will be asked to sign and date at the end, along with the Delivery Note, to confirm that you are happy with the delivery, set-up and familiarisation that you have received. The engineer will then leave a copy of each with you to keep for your records.

If we have been requested to supply your equipment or software, but not carry out an on-site set up, we will send your items out for delivery via a third party courier service, DPD.

The delivery options you will be offered when you contact us will be any time between 09:00am-17:00pm Monday to Friday.

On the day of your delivery, DPD will send either a text message or an email (using the contact details provided by you) to advise of the 1 hour window that they are likely to arrive, along with a reference number for your items that you may use to track your parcel on-line if you wish to.

When your delivery arrives, you will need to ensure that either you, or someone else nominated by you, is present at the address to accept the delivery and sign the relevant paperwork to acknowledge receipt of the items.

Please note that if you miss your delivery for any reason, you may be liable to pay the cost of a re-delivery fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

The delivery dates you will be offered when you contact us will be within 10 working days from that point. However, this is subject to your availability on the dates you are offered and does not apply to upgrade orders.

The delivery method that has been chosen for you is at the request of your Assessor and will depend on your personal circumstances – it will be whatever your Assessor considers to be best suited to your individual needs, and will be either of the following two options –

Delivery, Set-up & Familiarisation carried out at the same time, by a trained engineer*, between 09:00-16:00, Monday to Friday

or

Delivery Only carried out by the courier service, DPD, any time between 08:30-17:30, Monday to Friday

*In some cases the delivery & set-up may be carried out by a third party organisation engineer

The delivery times you will be offered are based on a 2 hour delivery window with the appointment itself lasting a maximum of around 1½ hours for the Engineer to deliver and set-up your equipment. This may, however, vary depending on the number of items you have.

It is important that you allow sufficient time to cover the 2 hour delivery window and also the time for the appointment itself, and take this into consideration when booking your delivery.

If for any reason you need to cancel or rearrange the date or time that you have booked for your delivery, providing you let us know within the required notice period of 1 business day or more, we can change your delivery date and / or time if you need to.

It is important that you let us know within the required notice period otherwise you may be liable to pay the cost of a re-delivery fee.

If you miss your delivery for any reason and weren’t able to let us know in time, just get in touch and we can book in another date for you.

Please, however, be aware that, depending on the circumstances, you may be liable to pay the cost of a re-delivery fee before being able to book another date for your delivery.

Before you can go ahead and arrange for your equipment to be delivered, we first need to see a copy of your DSA letter confirming your entitlement.

Please send us your letter here.

Assessors

Why Wyvern?

At Wyvern we have been a part of the DSA scheme since its infancy. We have grown along with it.

Along that path we have worked with assessment centres across the country to understand their needs and how we can make their life as easy as possible.

With so many "One-Stop-Shops", why should you choose Wyvern?

Well we have a few reasons. Firstly our support of students is of the highest standard, with year after year of glowing QAG audits, we don’t just look at the KPIs set within the QAF. We are dedicated to providing the best service we can, we do that using a data-driven, constant-feedback approach.

We have invested heavily in our internal systems to allow us to ensure all students are supported quickly and efficiently. We have internal SLAs that are required to be met so that orders are quickly processed and delivered, training provided flexibly via our various training methods and on-going support is provided to the best it can be.

We also listen to students, after all deliveries, training and support requests we send a survey to find out how we did, and we’re pleased to report that the feedback is great. It’s not perfect but where we see any dips we address the situation quickly to ensure our standards are always met.

We also make it easy for assessors. Over the years we have developed our custom quotation system that makes your job a breeze. We also listen to you, and change our systems to reflect the needs of assessors. We understand that you need to be able to support many students; and the less time spent on admin, the more time that is spent with students and making sure they are supported throughout their studies.

So if you’d like to discuss our systems, have a demo, or just talk about how we’re looking to constantly improve our service please call one of our dedicated DSA team on 01432 271233.

Alternatively, if you'd already got a log-in for our Quote Site, log in via the link below.

Training

We pride ourselves on enabling customers to get the maximum benefit out of the Assistive Software and equipment that they have been provided with.

We have trainers located throughout the country who have been carefully selected based on a variety of skills and qualities that we feel make them excellent Assistive Technology Trainers.  They are fully trained in products including TextHelp Read & Write Gold, Claro Read Pro, Dragon Naturally Speaking/Dragon Dictate, Inspiration & MindView, to name but a few.

Our trainers specialise in one-to-one training to ensure that students get a full understanding of the assistive technology, and how it can benefit them to support them in their studies.  They prepare for the sessions in advance, in order to maximise the time spent learning, and then tailor the sessions according to the customers’ particular needs and learning styles.

We realise that people have busy schedules, so we offer as much flexibility as possible to help customers find a suitable appointment option.  In addition to offering Monday to Friday 9-5 appointments, we also have evening and weekend training sessions available.

A number of our trainers have been chosen to also be our Visual Impairment Training Specialists; they have been selected due to their vast experience of Assistive Technology Training and have been trained on a number of VI software packages including Dolphin SuperNova & ZoomText.

Support Worker Co-Coaching, Strategy Coaching, Dyslexia Awareness and Colleague / Disability Awareness Training.

Our trainers undergo an intensive and thorough training programme including disability awareness and are regularly monitored and assessed to ensure that they continually deliver high quality training.  We regularly receive testimonials that highlight the excellence of their work.

Wyvern Business Systems are QAG registered and are regularly audited; we not only comply, but often exceed, the requirements that ensure we stay QAG registered.

All of the students that we provide assistive training for are asked to complete an online survey so that we can receive important feedback on our trainers and ensure they are maintaining our high standards.

Thoroughly enjoyed my sessions with Steve! They were really useful. Steve was always very patient with me and explained things very clearly. Steve always tailored the session to my needs. He always offered me a break when he could tell I was struggling to pay attention. Knowing that I’m a very visual person, he also showed me all the colour options and settings in each programme. Furthermore, I really like that we reviewed everything I’d learned at the end and him summarising key points that we’d covered from each programme. Very helpful Overall, I am so glad I had Steve to teach me and not anybody else! He was brilliant, always making the sessions fun, interesting & very informative! THANK YOU STEVE

Steve McKie! What a star! He has been very patient teaching this old bird new tricks! Enjoyed the training sessions and feel confident using the new skills. I was nervous prior to sessions but no need-had same teacher so able to build rapport. Will miss the ‘posh’ northern chap!!

My name is xxx, and I had a training session with Dave yesterday, he was wonderful, not only did he show me how to use all of my new programmes but he took the time to take an interest in who I was and what I am studying at University. If this is how you train all your staff then good on you.

My Trainer was Dave Oddie what a nice man nothing to much trouble. I have learned so much and had fun at the same time he made the training very easy for me to understand and has made a huge difference for me in my studies at university. I would just like to say a big thank you to Dave what a tutor GREAT. Many Thanks to your company for the help I have received.

Xandru was absolutely brilliant! He has a natural ability to teach and a really enthusiastic, kind and encouraging manner. In addition to this I feel he has gone above and beyond the role of trainer and sent me video links to cover what we went over and any other questions that may occur. This is very comforting for those of us that find technology a bit confusing and daunting at times, especially in conjunction with learning disabilities. I left the training session feeling more positive about academia and I would go as far to say possibly experiencing the best customer experience I have ever received. Thank you so much!

Thank you for the time spent with me, it’s been a delightful interlude to my studies that have enriched my resources and skill set greatly. I struggle to communicate generally and so I was happy to find Richard was so easy to communicate with. My anxiety was greatly reduced in his presence which allowed me to ask for the help I specifically needed. Thank you again 🙂
